John came to know Jesus through a depressed and lonely time in his life.  On March 21, 1991 after John had broken his foot for the 4th time, thoughts of suicide were heavy on his heart and on his mind.  From an all-conference and an all-American candidate on the football field to 14 months later breaking both his feet, John was left confused, depressed, and wanting to take his own life.  It was a conversation that John had with his dad on March 21, 1991 and the words his dad shared with him "Son, Jesus loves you and will never leave you nor forsake you, but you have to talk with him personally." That night John realized his religious lifestyle was leaving him empty-handed and he needed a personal relationship with Jesus.  He got down on his knees that night and simply surrendered his life into the hands that gave him life!

John would stay healthy the next year regaining his football prowess and one year and one month after thoughts of suicide, he would realize a dream come true! On April 22, 1992 John would hear his name called at the annual NFL draft! He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 282 pick of the draft that year. John received a phone call from Offensive Line Coach Jim McNally who informed his he had just been selected as their next draft choice! "Big John" realized his NFL dream had come true and and he cried like baby!

John would play for 5 different NFL teams and spend two seasons in the Canadian Football League, winning two championships!

"Without a doubt, I would tell you that snapping the ball to Joe Montana, blocking for Marcus Allan, playing on Monday night football, winning two championship rings, playing pro ball, that these accomplishments pale in comparison to March 21, 1991 when Jesus became my Lord and Savior!"  -John
